December 27th...on a train

The 27th was kind of a mixed bag. We started the day in Paris, would end the day in London, had a train ride mid-afternoon, and not much else was on the itinerary. First thing's first though: a return trip to Maison Kayser, a fabulous french bakery a few blocks from our hotel.

We picked up a nice loaf of cheese bread to eat on the train, then went and got some coffee and wandered over to Notre Dame, where we had been the night before. This time though, we went through the Cathedral, checking out the cute police men and the inside of the church. We wandered around the area for a while longer, checking out the Sorbonne and the College of Paris, then decided to go back to the hotel, get our stuff, and head off to lunch and the train station.

The train from Paris to London is very quick - it took less than three hours, and we had two stops along the way, one in Northern France and one in Southern England. The train left Paris at 4pm, so by the time we got to the chunnel, it was dark outside. The only way we even knew that we had gone in to the tunnel was the overhead announcement telling us so. Otherwise, I may not have even noticed... The chunnel itself was only about 20 minutes long, and then we arrived in England.

The underground in London is easy to get around, similar to Paris, though easier and more expensive. The underground led us straight from the train station to the hotel near Kings Cross, where we dropped our stuff and crashed for the evening. I spent an hour or so looking through our travel guide to figure out a plan for the next day, and then went to sleep....
